The term polygraph literally means "many writings". The name refers to the manner
in which selected physiological activities are simultaneously recorded.
A polygraph instrument records changes in the physiological state of the body through
various sensors which are attached to the interviewee and measure changes in their
respiratory activity, sweat gland activity and cardiovascular activity.
All the activity changes are transposed through a Data Acquisition Unit to a computer
and presented in graph form. The graphs are then interpreted by the examiner who
renders their professional opinion of the truthfulness of the interviewee.
Every polygraph test is only undertaken with the written consent of the interviewee.
All interviewees are required to produce a photographic means of identity before
sitting a polygraph test.
All interviewees are asked a series of questions to identify if they are suitable
for a polygraph test. The interviewee is free to stop the polygraph test and leave
at any time. Every interviewee will know all the questions to be asked during the
polygraph test and there are no surprise or trick questions.
The polygraph test should take approximately 3 hours and full verbal and written
report is produced for each polygraph test.
A polygraph test is by far the most accurate means available to test truthfulness,
